As the days in August wind down, there is a feeling that tugs at you. It pulls you and constantly buzzes at the back of your mind: school is about to begin. Suddenly that feeling is replaced by cold sweat, a building anxiety of having to face teachers, assignments, and tests. You react. You cope. You try to #liveitup and #makethemost of these final days. Then, when that inevitable alarm sounds on September 6, you groggily roll out of bed head pounding and a nagging voice that pleads "if only we had more time to get ready!"
Does this image sound familiar? All to often, students around the country face this malaise as their summer break comes to a close. The clock winds down and you are gripped with the pressure of summer reading assignments, school supplies, what new clothes to buy, and how will this year be different. Rather than wait till September 5, the 11th hour when the pressure cooker is about the explode, start to adjust now. Yes, it is only the middle of August, but let's avoid starting off the school year with a zero because the summer assignment was not completed.
Starting a new year strong means ending the summer strong. Too many students waste their days simply #livingitup and forgetting that responsibility may be forgotten in the moment, but it does not go away. Begin to take a look at the assignments you need to complete and take a few moments every day from now till September 6th to work on it. Block out time in your schedule every day for this purpose. Maybe it will be right when you wake up. Or maybe it will be later in the evening. Whatever the case, it is time to make that adjustment. And speaking of adjustments, you might want to consider getting one a more regular sleeping schedule. Yes it is fun to stay up till the wee hours of the morning and then awake twelve hours later. However, we do not live nor function in a nocturnal society and that first hour begins awfully early, especially for you rising seniors.
End the summer strong so that you can be ready to begin the year strong. #goazteceagles #startingstrong #thisistheyear
